Hey!! I am Brea Dupuis!
Let me start with telling you the TRUE story of how I chose Lifestyle Newborn and Family photography and why I LOVE it!
When I was in college studying Graphic Design, I worked in a daycare for 3 years as an assistant. After a year and a half, I became a teacher that worked one on on with children with special needs and disabilities, specifically children under the age of 7. My one little guy, Lucas, really made me realize how much I love children and working with children, especially ones with special needs. Lucas has down syndrome and is non-vocal so I decided to teach myself basic sign language and his specific signs so I could better understand his needs, wants, and really just be able to connect with him on another level. He holds such a special place in my heart and still to this day, makes me feel so lucky to have met him.
When I first decided to go full time into photography and graphic design, I thought weddings were where I needed to be. I photographed 4 weddings and never had that spark or warmth in my heart like I did when I worked with Lucas. A fellow photographer and close friend helped me realize that weddings were not my passion and that I should pursue Lifestyle Newborn and Family Photography. So weddings were no more from that point on!
When I started photographing newborns and families, I was so concerned about making sure I got those smiling, posed photos. I started shooting just the basic shots that everyone gives to grandparents but I felt like that wasn't enough!
I wanted to capture emotion and true moments of children and families that in the future, parents would look at and go "Oh yeah, that definitely was how he/she was at 3 years old." At that moment, I realized that shooting candid and true moments were totally okay and most of the time some of the best photos in the session that the families always remembered. Once I changed my shooting style up a bit and delivered the images to families, their reaction to the images really made me go "WOW, this is why I am doing this!!"
So WHY do I shoot Lifestyle Newborn and Family Photography?
Growing up, I remember my mom photographing and documenting every little moment of our lives. She was not afraid to pull that camera out when we were playing in the mud making mud pies or having fashion shows in the upstairs hallway. She now often pulls photos out and relives those days when we were little, but I have noticed that she is not in any of the photos.
I want to be able to capture these moments for moms and their families so that they can relive these days but also so mom can be in the photos with their little humans and can decorate their homes with these memories!
“Getting older kids to do anything is hard- which is part of the reason why family pictures were becoming less frequent. Dragging sulking pre-tweens in matching outfits out into nature wasn’t going to happen. When I booked Brea I warned her- my kids were not going to make her job easy. But she assured me, I would get great pictures. She came to us. My kids wore what made them comfy and got to relax in their environment. They chatted, showed off the things that were important to them, laughed, giggled, and generally made me look like a liar. Our photos are gorgeous. They capture our family as it is- jeans and big laughs. Brea made as all forget that we don’t like having our pictures taken and the results are memories we cherish! Thanks Brea!”
