When I am welcomed into someones home to photograph a lifestyle newborn session, it’s an absolute honour! I know that selecting a photographer to come into your home AND be around your new baby can be hard and it’s something you don’t take lightly.
When I arrived at Jeremy and Marin’s home, I was welcome with open arms! Immediately, I could feel a sense of warmth and love. Marin’s mom was visiting and helping with their new little lady, Emilia, while they finished getting themselves ready. While speaking with her, you could just see all the excitement she had to be a new grandma. She was smiling ear to ear while staring down at Emilia.
When I arrive at clients homes, I always start the session by looking for rooms with the most window light. I also check out the nursery and master bedroom. I like using these rooms because they have meaning! The nursery is part of the story but I like using the master bedroom because it is a place where the parents feel comfortable and themselves. Lifestyle is all about ensuring you feel comfortable and relaxed!!
Once we were all set to begin, we headed upstairs to their bedroom. We started cuddled up on their bed to get everyone feeling relaxed and peaceful. This also allows people to get a vibe of how the session will go. (Not scary or awkward like some may think). While photographing this adorable new family, I could see grandma off to the side tearing up while watching her baby with her own baby. It took a lot for me not to become emotional. They were all so happy and full of so much love the entire time that I just couldn’t help but to smile.
Once we captured some images of mom and dad with their little peanut, I wanted to try and capture some candid moments with grandma. These are the moments a lot of people don’t get to capture and remember at that time. I hope that these images bring Marin and her mom joy one day when they look back at this moment. After we had all the beautiful images in their room, we moved over to Emilia’s nursery. I LOVE seeing baby nurseries!! I love seeing the themes that parents put together for their little ones. Emilia’s nursery has many pieces that all have a meaning; blankets made by hand by loved ones, pieces of the room gifted from grandma and grandpa and so much more. It was beautifully designed and so perfect for a little girl.
Everything about this session just had my heart so happy! Such a beautiful family and a reminder of why I love my job and why capturing these moments in life are so important. Before you know it, you will have blinked and your once brand new baby will be starting JK.
